  • About me

Ikebana has been part of my daily life since I was a child. My family members and aunts were long-time ikebana practitioners, and their flower arrangements were casually placed here and there in our/their homes. When I was in college, I had a chance to come to the USA as an exchange student and stayed in Seattle area, WA. Two years later, I had to go back to Japan to complete my undergraduate degree, however when I left, I had a strong feeling I would come back to this country someday.

As I anticipated earlier, I came to this country again for marriage in 1974 and started working for one of major US airline companies as a bilingual attendant. Luckily, I met Ms. Yaeko Baily, Sogetsu School Riji via a friend of mine, and started taking her classes. She taught me not just basics and advanced level of ikebana but also construction of huge installations. After her leaving for Japan, I run Sogetsu IL SG as a Chairperson for six years. While flying around the world as one of the company’s long-time flyers, I have taught/am teaching ikebana in my Arlington Hts. Classes, IL. My students are mostly bilingual: Japanese and English (+ English and Korean or Spanish).

I am an active member of STA(Sogetsu Teacher's Association) of Sogetsu Foundation, Tokyo, Japan, Ikebana International Chicago Chapter #27, and Sogetsu Illinois SG.

My Ikebana arrangements have been exhibited at the Ikebana International Chapter#27, Sogetsu Illinois SG, Consulate General of Japan, and various flower shows.
